Hydrogen Sulfur (H2S) and Siloxanes Removal

Biogas originating from fermentation plants and/or anaerobic water treatment plants consists for the most part of methane and carbon dioxide. In many cases, trace elements in the form of halogens, siloxanes and hydrogen sulfide are also present in the biogas. The application of this biogas in boilers and gas engines, without removing these components from the biogas, can lead to damage and/or increased maintenance costs. The removal of siloxanes and hydrogen sulfide can easily take place by using activated carbon stems.

In many cases, biogas is 100% saturated with moisture. The moment a temperature drop occurs, the moisture condenses out and is carried along in the pipeline to the customer (boiler/gas engine/gas reprocessing). This is an undesirable situation because it negatively affects business operations and can lead to corrosion in the biogas-fed systems. Forced condensate separation can be achieved by cooling the biogas in a heat exchanger that is secondarily cooled by a chiller. In most cases, a sufficient dew point can be achieved with a chiller. If very low dew points (eg -5….-10 degC) are required, absorption dryers can be used.
